Workday Resources

Workday is a new solution to manage BWC Terminals employee information, recruitment, benefits, payroll, time tracking, financial business processes, training, and more. Employees will use Workday to apply for internal job openings, complete trainings, manage their benefits, pay-related information such as direct deposits and W-4s, personal information such as home address, mobile phone numbers, and emergency contacts, submit expenses, process purchase orders, pay invoices, and more!

Training materials are written documents used to explain information and provide a visual guide for all tasks and processes within the Workday system. Training Materials are defined as the following:

  • Job Aids are short information documents that provide direction on how to accomplish a task in Workday. The job aids are written as step-by-step guides with visual guides (screen shots) from the Workday system. Job aids are basically “How-to Guides”.
  • Cheat-Sheets are a very short list reminder of notes. Designed as a quick reference to a process for which you may need a brief reminder of how to get started or find resources.
  • Glossary is a document of defined Workday abbreviations, terms, and symbols with an explanation for each.
  • User Guides are typically longer than a job aid and provide more description or explanation to processes and actions within Workday. These guides are a companion to job aids rather than the main source for learning how to complete tasks.

Each training document is named with a system to quickly identify the business process (topic) and target audience (user).  For example, a job aid titled: ESS_GS_Modify Your Personal Information_ JA_emp means the following:

  • ESS = Employee Self Service means that all City employees need to study this job aid
  • GS = Getting Started means that this job aid is part of the first set of information you need to get started in Workday
  • Modify Your Personal Information = is the title of the training document and provides an idea of the topic being taught
  • JA = Job Aid is the type of training document (as opposed to a cheat sheet, glossary, or user guide)
  • Emp = Employee is the target audience (user) for this training document

Welcome to BWC Workday for Employees!

As a BWC employee, you can view your own information in Workday and perform many self-service tasks. Using Workday, you will enter your time worked, request leave, and update personal information. You will also use Workday to review your compensation, benefits, and more!

Employee Applications in Workday

When logging into Workday, all employees will arrive at the Workday landing page. Along with the Inbox and Notifications, you will have access to several icons called “applications.” Each application gives you easy access to tasks and information you will use regularly.

Need assistance with using and navigating the Workday applications? We created Employee Self-Service Job Aids. Job Aids are short, informational documents that provide step-by-step directions on accomplishing specific tasks in Workday. Each job aid includes visual references (screenshots) along with clear direction. See the list of available job aids below:

Welcome to BWC Workday for Managers!

A manager in Workday is defined as a person with one or more direct reports. Employees logged into BWC Workday with the role of manager or supervisor will have additional security access, applications, and business processes compared to those with the employee role.

These differences give managers or supervisors access to information about their direct reports, such as the ability to view employee job details; review and approve timesheets and time-off requests, and view their team’s time-off calendar, and leave balances.
